What happens in a Children’s Kinesiology Session?

Each Kinesiology session is unique and flows according to the child’s needs. In some sessions we start by chatting directly with the child about how they are feeling and what is happening in their life at that particular time. Sometimes the child isn’t comfortable talking straight away so they sit and play with some things while I chat to the parent/guardian of the child about the issues they’d like to work on.

I also have a lot of parents that prefer to just hand me a note with the issues they’d like to work on, and then they leave it to me to manage how I bring up those issues with the child directly. I am flexible and always go with the best thing for the child on that particular day.

I always explain to the children what is going to happen in the session so they are not nervous about it. I explain that we’re just going to have a little chat, then they’ll get to lay on the massage table on their back and I’ll just be moving their arm up and down to help them feel better.

Finally I also make sure that I let them know that they’ll receive a special little gift from me at the end of the session, which they are always excited about!

Are there age restrictions on Kinesiology for children, and does the parent/guardian stay for the session?

There are no restrictions on Kinesiology for children, each child has their own individual personality and needs so I will speak with their parent/guardian to establish what is the best way for them to be treated, as a general rule though I would recommend the following;

Babies

Babies can have a Kinesiology session (often helpful for sleeping, feeding, food issues) and this is done through muscle testing on the Mother’s arm as a surrogate for the baby. This is normally done whilst they are holding the baby, or baby is lying on them whilst they are on the table. If it’s not possible to have baby with you we can use surrogate testing by the Mum bringing in a photo of baby.

Toddlers

Toddlers are notoriously hard to get to sit still for very long, so in the majority of cases we will work in a much different way to adults. Generally there is much less talking and we'll aim to complete the session quickly and in an efficient manner while still achieving the maximum amount possible.

Another option is to not have the toddler present in the healing session. Rather what we do is we have parent/guardian attend the session with a photo of the child. We then talk through all the challenges that they are experiencing and we use the photo to bring the child’s energy on line and use the parents arm to surrogate test and establish what the child needs. This also normally includes ‘homework’ in which the parent/guardian will have something that they need to do with the child at home. This may involve flower essence drops, rubbing acupressure points, placing a crystal near them, having the child smell an essential oil etc.

I have used this method previously in clinic and have had wonderful results and shifts for the children after the session, so it is still just as effective as them attending in person.

School Aged Younger Children (5-10yrs)

Children that are in the 5-10yr age bracket are generally very happy to come for a session and chat to me about how they are feeling. Through the use of my various tools and techniques I’m able to provide a safe, comfortable place for them to share their stress and help feel better again. In the majority of these sessions the parent/guardian is present and will help contribute to the session where they see fit. With a lot of my clients in this age bracket, as soon as they have been for a few sessions and are comfortable with me they will ask to see me on their own and their parent/guardian will wait outside and just join us at the end to see what homework/remedies are required.

Older Children (10-13yrs)

When it comes to sessions for older children/teenagers it is really up to them how they would like the session to run. The majority of my clients in this age bracket with arrive with their parent/guardian and then want their session to be private and ask for it to be alone. Sometimes the parent/guardian will stay for the first part of the session whilst we are talking through everything going on, and then when it’s time to hop on the massage table and test up what is needed for a balance they will exit the room to give their child privacy and space to share one on one.

What is the duration and cost of a Child’s Kinesiology Session?

Kinesiology sessions for children 10yrs and under are normally 60mins in duration unless otherwise discussed and agreed that a longer time period is required.

Kinesiology sessions for children/teenagers 10 - 13yrs are usually 60 - 90mins.

The appropriate duration for your child can be discussed when we are booking in the session, as it is very much based around the child’s particular needs and stressors that are to be worked on.
